Chaos.
This word is a wonderful descriptor of my life as we speak, or more accurately as I type. I've just come home from vacation with Wes and his family, which was wonderful, but sadly life was waiting for me when I returned. In all honesty I love chaos and busyiness, as many of you can vouch, but I feel as if I have not really had a summer this year. Between Europe, summer classes, work, and trying to have a social life, breathing becomes a sweet rarity. And now I begin to look towards Uganda...
What does one take to a country that is terribly formal, but also conservative? Long skirts and heels, but at the same time the weather should be sweltering. On the positive side I just found out I can take two suitcases..alas, it truly is the small things in life. :)How much free time will I have? How much money should I take? What should I take to my host family as a gift?
I got the last of my shots yesterday. Yellow Fever. Mhmmm... delightful. I think I have had more shots in the last month than I have in the last five years. Typhoid, Polio, and Yellow Fever, and then Malaria pills...All I can say is that it is a good thing I'm not afraid of shots.
Regardless, I have plenty of fears that consume my mind about this trip.
1). AIDS-- Has always been a fear of mine. I will certainly have to pray my way through this one. (And I would appreciate prayers on this as well...(hinthint))
2). Classes-- I have no clue what classes will be like at this school. Will the teachers like me? Will I do well in classes? I am excited for the African history and lit. classes though!
3). The Relationship with my Host Family-- I hope they have kids...little ones that I can play with! I hope they will let me help, and thus, enable me to feel useful. I hope that I will not make any major errors in judgement and will be a respectful guest.
4). Friends-- Always a fear for me. So I guess in the spirit of honesty, I worry about this as well, but not as much as I did before heading off to LeTourneau.
5). My Relationship with the Lord-- hasn't been where it needs to be this summer...it is so easy for me to fall off the wagon here when my schedule loses its rigidity. I really want this trip to be a time of communion with my heavenly father. I really want him to open my eyes.
But as Philippians 4 says,
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I just need to give these up. So hey God, these are for you. Please Lord, carry me through this. Give me strength to stand in you. May my human fears not prevent me from doing your will and keeping my eyes open for opportunities to serve your people. Thank you Lord, for your provision and blessings! Great is your faithfulness.
Ah...July, pass slowly and grant me time to finish all that is on my ever growing list.
On to today's dilemma: Doing philosophy homework!
